Journalism Students: Apply Now for an International Fellowship Focused on Curbing Fake News

The frustrations and pervasiveness of disinformation in the news media are prevalent on both sides of the Atlantic but each side has its own unique perspectives on the phenomenon of #FakeNews and how best to address it.

To help unite these perspectives into a more effective strategy, the Journalism in the Era of Disinformation Fellowship (JED Fellowship) annually brings together eight German and eight American journalism students for a weeklong program in Washington, D.C. and New York City.

The 2019 class of the Journalism in the Era of Disinformation (JED) Fellowship pose for a group photo during their orientation in Washington, D.C.

Fellows meet with news outlets, fellow journalists, and media experts to discuss the role of disinformation in political news coverage in the U.S. and Europe as well as explore strategies to counteract its rise. Since the inaugural program in 2018, the JED Fellows have met with representatives from some of the most important media publications and organizations, including:

– The Associated Press – National Public Radio – The New York Times – Politifact – The Washington Post – Axios – CUNY Graduate School of Journalism – National Association for Media Literacy Education

Applications for the program’s third year will be accepted until January 15, 2020.
