We know U.S. immigration can be daunting if you’re unfamiliar, but the opportunities that international teachers can bring to your school community are too great to overlook this option.

Many schools already receive resumes from teachers abroad, but aren’t sure how to hire them or are afraid it’s too complicated. We at Cultural Vistas want you to know that this talented pool of teachers is just a few steps away from having an impact on your school and students.
- J-1 Visas are sponsored by organizations like Cultural Vistas, which are designated by the U.S. Department of State to serve as visa sponsors. The school is not the visa sponsor. Cultural Vistas ensures the school and teacher remain in compliance with the visa requirements throughout the program and is responsible for maintaining immigration records.
- The school applies directly to Cultural Vistas to request J-1 Visa sponsorship for each teacher hired. The school does not file any paperwork with the U.S. government for the visa. We suggest making offers in early spring to ensure a smooth process and a timely arrival, but we can accept applications through the summer.
- Teachers can apply for the visa immediately upon approval by Cultural Vistas at the U.S. embassy or consulate in their country.
That’s it! Yes, you will complete paperwork for Cultural Vistas about the position offered, and the teacher must also prove they have the education and work experience necessary to qualify. It’s our job to vet the school and teacher for eligibility before issuing the paperwork the teacher needs to apply for the J-1 Visa. We work with schools every day that have never done this, and, yes, there is a learning curve to certain things like I-9s for non-citizens or hiring someone who doesn’t have a Social Security Number that you’ll learn as you go, and we’re here to help you.
How we support your school
Once the visa is approved, Cultural Vistas remains in touch with the school and teacher throughout the program to monitor progress and provide the instructions needed to complete the program. You don’t have to worry about becoming an expert because we are! We also provide teachers’ orientation, medical insurance options, a 24-hour emergency line, and a Non-Resident tax filing software.
