Dr. Linda Lopez to Keynote Berlin Discussion on Diversity and Inclusion

BERLINDr. Linda Lopez, Chief of the Office of Immigrant Affairs for the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, will keynote a discussion on diversity and inclusion on Thursday evening, June 20 at Cultural Vistas’ European office in Berlin.

Dr. Lopez will provide examples of innovative initiatives in Los Angeles that have led to the more diverse and inclusive leadership that is necessary to move economies forward. Her examples of global collaboration between cities and public-private partnerships will include, among others, a project she undertook as a participant of the 2017 Welcoming Communities Transatlantic Exchange program—where she facilitated local connections between U.S. cities and Germany.

Dr. Lopez was part a team of immigration professionals who shared LA’s best practices on diversity and inclusion to visiting Germans as part of the Welcoming Communities Transatlantic Exchange. The group is pictured above outside LA’s City Hall in April 2017.

Following the keynote, Dr. Lopez will engage in an interactive discussion with the audience, which will include government officials, members of the media, as well as current participants and alumni of Cultural Vistas’ professional exchange programs.

About Dr. Linda Lopez:
Dr. Lopez is the Chief of the Office of Immigrant Affairs for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. She has led a variety of initiatives to create innovative public-private partnerships with philanthropists and those in the private sector. Prior to her current role, she was an Associate Dean for Diversity and Strategic Initiatives at the University of Southern California and a Program Officer at the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Lopez is a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, a Transatlantic Fellow for the German Marshall Fund, and an alumna of Cultural Vistas’ Welcoming Communities Transatlantic Exchange program to Germany.  She has recently been selected to join the BMW Foundation’s Herbert Quandt Global Leaders Table. Dr. Lopez received her Master’s and PhD from the University of Southern California in political science and her undergraduate degree in political science from Cal Poly Pomona. She continues to live in the Los Angeles region with her family—of which she is the first to go to college.
