Do you have a strong sense of civic responsibility and want to activate your good governance skills within your community? Want to learn strategies and best practices on how to campaign for government transparency and accountability? Apply for the 2022 YSEALI Regional Workshop on Civic Education for Good Governance set to be held in Manila, Philippines in July 2022.
Cultural Vistas, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, will host the 2022 YSEALI Regional Workshop: Guardians of Good Governance.
The workshop will include young leaders from across ASEAN and Timor-Leste working in civic education realm to promote civic participation, good governance, and transparency and accountability in government. Pre-workshop virtual activities and the workshop in Manila will offer background on civic education theory, lifelong learning, and best practices in digital engagement strategies, with post-workshop virtual engagement to support and monitor participant implementation of workshop‘s lessons learned. Participants will use civic education to increase civic participation and promotion of good governance and to identify barriers and means to tackle barriers to build and implement civic education projects/campaigns, and to create activities to reach a diverse set of stakeholders. Participants will work in teams, use small grants to implement their projects/campaigns, and deliver presentations on their success to audiences in their communities and throughout the region.

To be eligible, all applicants must be 18-35 years old, be registered members of YSEALI, and be from one of the 11 YSEALI nations. To register your YSEALI membership, visit the YSEALI website and complete the “join YSEALI” section. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to, civic education in their local community or nation.

Introduction to practices and resources to support lifelong learning.
- Equitable Community Engagement Toolkit
An overview of the elements found in an Equitable Community Engagement Toolkit, an introduction to case studies of civic education projects/campaigns that resulted in good governance practices, and an introduction to important elements and best practices that lead to a successful outcome.
- Project-based Learning
Understanding of project-based learning to envision ways to reach deep into the communities to engage a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Development for Campaigns
Guidance in the development of digital education and engagement campaigns for civic education projects and campaigns.
