Life as a J-1 Trainee: Yuting Chen, Air China

Yuting Chen, an employee of Air China Limited in her home country of China since 2009, began her J-1 trainee program through Cultural Vistas in El Segundo, California in November 2014.

Since then, she has had the opportunity to participate in many enriching U.S. cultural experiences that have broadened her horizons and helped to shape both her personal and career development.

Here are some of the highlights:

Yuting was one of 15 employees representing Air China at the conference from both their U.S. offices and their headquarters in Beijing. As an attendee, she got to learn about the latest developments in economics, business management, and business travel.

During the conference, she also attended a lunch with some impressive keynote speakers: philanthropist and Silicon Valley icon Steve Wozniak; Golden Globe winning actor, producer, and director Kevin Bacon; and FOX News Channel Anchor Megyn Kelly.

On July 31, 2015, Air China Limited and the China National Tourist Office went to the University of California in Los Angeles to celebrate the Special Olympics World Games Festival. Yuting helped set up and monitor the Air China booth at the games. She shared this reflection of the event with us:

“The most exciting part is that I got the opportunity to award the prizes to the athletes. This was a fantastic and memorable experience.”

Only the Beginning…

As Yuting’s training in California comes to an end this October, we hope that she will continue to grow during her J-1 trainee program personally and professionally. We are sure that she will take these wonderful, transformative experiences with her back to China to strengthen her career and reach her personal goals!
